The most common types of implants are saline and silicone. Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. This type of implant allows Dr. Harrell to fill the implant as needed in order to achieve the desired size and can help correct any possible asymmetry. Silicone implants are prefilled with a silicone gel which provides the patient with fuller breasts that look and feel natural. Since these implants are prefilled, it does not allow the same flexibility to correct slight asymmetry.
Placement of the implant is another component of the surgery. The incision is made typically around the areola and this allows for minimal visible scarring and allows Dr. Harrell to achieve the cleavage the patient desires. An implant can be placed behind the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue. The option best for you will be determined by Dr. Harrell upon completion of a physical examination.

Typically, patients over the age of 18 years of age are candidates for breast augmentation surgery. It is important to discuss with Dr. Harrell your health history. If you are over the age of 40, a recent mammogram will be done prior to surgery. Recovering
Many factors can contribute to your expected recovery experience. Typically, a patient can expect 24-48 hours of discomfort followed by a few weeks of restricted physical activity during the post-operative period. Pain medication is prescribed to you prior to surgery to minimize your discomfort. Many of our patients return to work within 3-4 days post surgery. Any concerns you have about recovery should be discussed with your surgeon.
